N-Gage developer list points to unannounced first party games

Nokia's recently relaunched developer site N-Gage Insider has a list labelled "our developers" which apparently includes all of Nokia's current first party game devs. Four of the companies listed haven't any games announced on N-Gage so far, yet there they are on the list, which suggests their titles are in development but so far unannounced.

If you've purchased the rather good Pro Series Golf, you may feel a bit confused by the controls as they're not really explained within the game itself. The method for choosing a club for example is far from obvious. However, help is at hand from two sources: the game's producer has posted a general how-to on the official PSG forum, and N-Gage Arena member ShadowSpawn has done a more extensive illustrated tutorial concentrating on swings and putts. Dirk Dagger official website goes live

The official website for the upcoming N-Gage game Dirk Dagger And The Fallen Idol has launched at www.dirkdagger.com. As well as including info about characters and locations, you can play a Flash-based demo of the game's first chapter in your computer's web browser. The site also includes a comic book called "Dirk Dagger And The Poochie Predicament", which you can access by... well, that's something for you to find out for yourselves. :-)

Big Box of Blox: a "Columns" remake for your N-Gage-compatible phone

Over on All About Symbian, Ewan Spence has been very impressed by the unofficial N-Gage game Big Box Of Blox, a new take on the old console favourite "Columns". Over the past few months Nokia has been accepting entries for their Mobile Games Innovation Challenge, with the winner receiving 40,000 euros to develop their game. If you're thinking of entering you'd better get your skates on as the closing date is the 20th of August. Just to emphasise, they don't want actual games or code, what they're after are detailed game concepts including a text description and optionally mockup screenshots and video too. This compo is only open to game development professionals however.

If you work in the game industry, you may be interested to know that there's a new official N-Gage development site called N-Gage Insider. The site contains a developers' forum, technical information about the new N-Gage platform, how to publish games on N-Gage, how to become a first party developer for Nokia and much more. Pro Series Golf gets underway

Pro Series Golf, one of the most eagerly awaited N-Gage titles, is now available. If you can't see it in your N-Gage client, then 'View available games' and look down the bottom of the list. Screenshots and first impressions are below. It's 21MB and takes 5 minutes to install(!), by the way - I'll have a full review up before the weekend.

In another AAN editorial, Ewan Spence argues that we've got quite a while to wait before we can judge whether the next gen N-Gage platform is a success or not. On all gaming platforms, from the ZX Spectrum to the PlayStation 2, it can take a year or more for the first genuinely memorable titles to appear, and it seems unlikely the new N-Gage platform will be any different.
